Aster Zaoude

Aster Zaoude received her baccalaureat from Lycee Guebre Mariam in 1970. She studied in France where she earned a Law degree from Aix-Marseille University and DES doctoral studies diploma in international law from Sorbonne University, Paris.

Aster served the United Nations around the world for 30 years (UNECA, UNIFEM, UNDP, DPKO), mostly in the field of gender equality and women's empowerment until she retired in 2011 as UNDP Director of Gender and Development in NY.

Aster lives in Ethiopia where she established the Tsehay Zewde Memorial Scholarship Program for all visually impaired female students at AA University. She is an AWARD mentor and a member of Setaweet.
